Since 2020, Britons have been falling in love with our own country once again. While the trend for ‘staycations’ may have been driven by necessity. Now we have rediscovered the attractions on our doorstep, it looks set to outlast the pandemic. Alternatively, drive in the opposite direction to the austere beauty of the Yorkshire Dales, where there are a variety of wonderful scenic walks for those of all abilities, and you will find numerous warm and friendly country pubs set in stunning scenery. Or follow the River Eden north to Carlisle and Hadrian’s Wall, walk along the ruins and visit one of several museums to steep yourself in ancient history while enjoying the natural beauty of the area.
