Our favourite 5 Things To Do In Manchester – 2021

Home of the Haçienda, The birthplace of Oasis, and one of the UK’s most popular tourist locations, Manchester has a lot to offer those looking for a staycation or city break.

With the demand for city breaks at an all-time high, there’s no better time to check out the sites, sounds and flavours of this beautiful melting pot of a city.

Whether you’re a foodie, a culture vulture or a sports fan, Manchester has something to offer you!

With lockdown restrictions lifting across the UK, we thought there was no better time to list some of our favourite things to do in Manchester.

1: V-Rev

V-Rev is an absolute gem of a diner, offering foodies the best in vegan fast food.

They specialise in cruelty-free burgers, hot dogs and burritos, best of all, even if you aren’t vegan, you’ll be blown away by how decadent and delicious their creations are!

The office favourite is “Donut Have A Cow, Man!”, A delicious “beef” burger, onions, “bacon”, vegan cheese and BBQ sauce all sandwiched between 2 sugar doughnuts! Like we said… decadent!

The menu is full of inventive takes on all the diner classics such as Mac and Cheese, loaded fries, milkshakes and cheesecake and has proven to be so popular, it’s won such awards as “Best Vegan Restaurant in the UK” and regularly makes the top of lists for Manchester’s best eateries.

Located in the famous Northern Quarter of the city, V-Rev is the perfect spot for some creative and cruelty-free comfort food, even better still, if you’re on a city break, you can even get it delivered to your holiday home!

2: Whistle Punks – Urban Axe Throwing

If you’re looking for something a little different to do while in the city, we can’t recommend Whistle Punks enough!

There’s just something strangely satisfying with throwing an axe into a target, especially with a group of friends.

Your visit includes a tutorial, throwing time and then a tournament to work out who’s the axe throwing champion of your group, the venue also stocks craft beers and ciders to wet your whistle between throws.

Axe throwing is growing in popularity across the country and is a hobby of Aquaman himself, Jason Momoa and if Aquaman thinks it’s cool, who are we to argue!

Whistle Punks is in the Deansgate region of Manchester and open 7 days a week.

3: National Football Museum

If you’re a fan of the beautiful game, the National Football Museum is a must-visit attraction.

Chronicling the storied history of Football in the UK, the museum is chock-full of artefacts and exhibits from some of the most significant moments in the history of the game.

From the Jules Rimet trophy to the ball from the infamous 1966 world cup final, there are legendary moments captured in every inch of the museum.

We love the interactive elements of the museum, with exhibits like Shot-stopper and Penalty Shootout being incredibly fun, on top of that, getting to commentate some of the most famous moments in football is an absolute must for soccer fans.

Given Manchester’s reputation as a footballing mecca, why not couple your visit with a trip to Old Trafford or the Ethiad Stadium tours too?

The museum offers free entry, although there are fees for some of the interactive elements.

4: Science and Industry Museum

One of Manchester’s most popular museums, The Science and Industry Museum is an amazing look at the impact science and technology have had on our lives.

New for 2021 however, is “Use Hearing Protection” an exhibition on the early years of the legendary Factory Records.

Factory Records was home to Joy Division, New Order and The Happy Mondays as well as purveyors of the Haçienda nightclub, one of the cities most important cultural hubs in the 80’s and 90’s.

The exhibition offers the unique opportunity to see graphic designs by Peter Saville, previously unseen items from the Factory archives, and objects loaned from the estates of both Tony Wilson and Rob Gretton, the former manager of Joy Division and New Order, there are even opportunities to remix classic Factory tracks in their custom studio!

With the impact of Factory being heavily engrained on the music, art and feel of the city, this exhibition is a must-see for anyone wanting to learn more about the cultural heart of Manchester.

The exhibition runs from June 19th 2021 – Jan 3rd 2022

5: NQ64

Last on our short, and in no way exhaustive, list of Manchester recommendations is the amazing NQ64, Manchester’s premier arcade bar.

Located near the also incredible Crazy Pedro’s in the ever-popular Northern Quarter, NQ64 is a hidden (quite literally… it’s tucked away on a back street) gem of a bar, stacked with retro arcade machines, games consoles and mind-blowing neon decor.

With games ranging from the classic, hard-hitting fighter, Tekken, to driving insanity in Sega’s super fun Crazy Taxi, the hardcore gamers and casual players will all find something up their streets to play.

It’s not just games though, the bar offers craft beers from a rotation of local breweries and international favourites, wines and NQ64’s signature gaming-themed cocktails. We highly recommend the Blanka, a Street Fighter 2 themed tipple with Tequila, Midori, Cucumber, Lemon, Agave and Apple.

Open 7 days, NQ64 is an absolute blast, we definitely recommend you check out!
